Cristalino Jungle Lodge – Brazilian Amazon Sanctuary

It is beautifully situated on the Cristalino River and there are several good trails and observation towers to enjoy. The local wildlife is exceptional and expertly found by the guides. Boat trips are really enjoyable and educational, with great opportunities for photography.

Built to harmonize with the surrounding forest, the eco-friendly bungalows provide a pleasant and comfortable stay.

All rooms have a strong preoccupation with environmental sustainability. Whether you are lounging around or hiking all over the area, you may not realize that his Lodge is green and almost entirely self-sustainable with solar panels and grey-water systems on almost all the buildings.
Our Hints: The bird watching at Cristalino is awesome. Besides the spectacular birds, you will have the chance to see tapirs, caimans, river otters and capivaras.

To get to the Lodge you will fly to Alta Floresta  and stay overnight in their sister hotel. The transfer to the lodge is done the flowing day in a jeep and boat trip. The Cristalino Jungle Lodge is located in the Southern tip of the Amazon forest.

Packages: These are suggested itineraries. Local guides can customize and coordinate activities so that clients are able to visit the most desired trails. Your trip can also be customized with more or fewer days in the region.

CANOPY TOWER: Hiking to and climbing the canopy tower at down or sunset for observing the forest landscape and canopy wildlife such as monkeys, toucans, macaws, and other birds from above the canopy is a must at Cristalino Lodge.

GIANT OTTER PACKAGE – 5 DAYS

DAY 1. Arrival in Alta Floresta, pick up and transfer to Cristalino Jungle Lodge. Upon arrival, there will be an introduction to the lodge and to your accommodations. Library and maps are available.
DAY 2. In the morning, hike towards the 50 meter Canopy Tower where you will be able to see the forest from above the canopy. Monkeys, macaws and several species of birds can be found here. Then, walk the Ficus Trail, where a giant Ficus Tree is found. In the afternoon, walk the Taboca Trail in an area with seasonally flooded forest, where many monkeys can be found.
DAY 3. In the morning, hike towards the Saleiro House – a rustic tree house located in the middle of the forest reserve. The soil here is naturally rich in minerals, and is often visited by large forest mammals such as the South american Tapir (
Tapirus terrestris), Collared Peccary (Pecari tajacu), White-lipped Peccary (Tayassu pecari), the Giant Anteater (Myrmecophaga tridactylaand) and the Southern Tamandua (Tamandua tetradactyla). By the afternoon, boat trip up river and hike the remarkable Brazil Nut Trail in a region with enormous Brazil Nut Trees. On the way back it is possible to canoe or boat ride, watching the afternoon as you go down river.
DAY 4. Boat trip in the morning and hike the “Sierra Trail”: a site with a low, drier and deciduous type of forest. This trail has beautiful viewpoints since it is located in a hilly landscape. Orchids are often found in this area. In the afternoon hike in the Teles Pires island, a place where parakeets, parrots, macaws and nesting wood storks can be seen. Sunset at this place is great for photography.
DAY 5. Light hike in the Tapiri Trail, where the White-whiskered-spider-monkey (Atelis marginatus), symbol of Cristalino State Park, can be seen. Transfer to Alta Floresta. Lunch and departure to Cuiaba.


 

ATELES PACKAGE – 6 Days

Hike the Caja Trail, an excellent site for seeing primates who feed on the caja fruit (Spondias mombin), including the Brown Capuchin Monkey (Cebus apella) and the rare Red-nosed Saki Monkey (Chiropotes albinasus). In the afternoon, walk the Scenery Trail – one of the most beautiful trails in the reserve. It goes through a hilly landscape and often offers fascinating views. The forest here is very rich in bromeliads, heliconias and orchids. Return by sunset.
DAY 6. Light hike in the Tapiri Trail, where the White-whiskered-spider-monkey (Atelis marginatus), symbol of Cristalino State Park, can be seen. Transfer to Alta Floresta. Lunch and departure to Cuiaba.

The canoes have international quality standards. In the afternoon, walk the Cocoa Trail, where native cocoa trees can be seen. Birds often feed on these fruits. This trail presents the possibility to see anteaters, monkeys and armadillos.
DAY 7. Light hike in the Tapiri Trail, where the White-whiskered-spider-monkey (Atelis marginatus), symbol of Cristalino State Park, can be seen. Transfer to Alta Floresta. Lunch and departure to Cuiaba.
