Brazil domestic passengers at all time high in May 2025

Brazil’s domestic aviation sector soared to new heights in May 2025, breaking all-time records for passenger numbers. This remarkable achievement underscores the resilience and burgeoning strength of the Brazilian travel market, signaling a robust recovery and an optimistic outlook for the nation’s economy.

According to recent data, Brazil witnessed an impressive 18.3% surge in domestic demand for air travel in May, representing the highest growth among major domestic markets globally. This continuous expansion, which has been unbroken since January 2023, saw 8.2 million domestic boardings, surpassing previous records for the month of May and even outperforming pre-pandemic levels.

Several factors have contributed to this stellar performance. A significant driver has been the sustained increase in consumer confidence in air travel, partly due to enhanced health and safety protocols adopted by airlines and airports. Furthermore, airlines, notably LATAM Airlines Brazil, have ramped up domestic capacity, with a 13.0% increase in May 2025, including the launch of new routes like São Paulo to Fernando de Noronha. The full restoration of operations at Salgado Filho International Airport in Porto Alegre, which was impacted by severe flooding in 2024, also played a role in boosting capacity.

This surge in domestic air travel is a strong indicator of Brazil’s economic resilience and the vibrancy of its internal tourism market. It reflects a growing desire among Brazilians to explore their vast country, whether for leisure or business. As the aviation sector continues to expand its connectivity and adapt to evolving traveler needs, Brazil is solidifying its position as a key player in the global travel and tourism landscape, with significant potential for further growth in the coming years
